About
I’m Matthew Ault – a backend engineer, systems thinker, and writer exploring the intersection of software, incentives, and psychology.
I’ve spent the last decade working on distributed systems, ingestion pipelines, and real-time media platforms, mostly in startup and scale-up environments. The thread that ties my interests together is how architecture, incentives, and organisational behaviour interact – why some teams move quickly and others slowly suffocate under their own processes.
Foobarcat is my personal home on the internet. Here I write, experiment with ideas, and occasionally help teams untangle the technical and organisational knots that make engineering harder than it needs to be.
